Most restaurant establishments have guidelines for what to wear as a waitress. Waitress clothes are typically comprised of a shirt that is provided by the employer and then the rest you must provide yourself. The “rest” of the uniform usually includes a pair of black waitress pants and black waitress shoes. This might seem like a simple task, but trust me, it is something that you will want to make sure you get right!
Waitress clothes – Black Waitress Pants
You might think that you can just wear a pair of black pants that you have at home as waitress clothes. After wearing these pants for a few shifts you will realize how gross they will get and realize you need proper server clothes. Even though you are probably wearing an apron, your waitress pants will get dirty. They will begin to smell like food, along with all of your other clothing. Devote at least one pair of pants to your waitress job. It would be even better to have two pairs of waitress pants so that you can always have a clean pair ready to go, especially if you work multiple shifts per week.
There are various materials available for server pants. Choose a material that is easy to clean, breathable, and a belt loop. Some restaurants will even let you wear black jeans while waitressing but always remember to ask before you wear them.
Waitress clothes – Black Waitress Shoes
Most restaurants require that waitresses wear black non-slip shoes while serving food. Some restaurants require that the waitress shoes look professional, such as this waitress favorite: the Dansko Women’s Professional Clog. Remember that you will be wearing these shoes for several hours during your shift so they need to be comfortable.
When shopping for black waitress shoes, there are several types available, but the best are the ones that are most comfortable! Try to look for a lightweight shoe that offers stability and cushioning for the long hours serving guests. This athletic waitress shoe will provide comfort and support for your double shifts There are also a number of more professional waitress shoes that are made for people that are constantly on their feet. There are many companies that make shoes specifically for waiters and waitresses. These waitress shoes are non-slip and can really help make things easier and safer when rushing through a kitchen.
The best thing a waitress can do after buying a pair of shoes is to wear them a few times before you wear them for a full shift. Wear them around your house or even for a few hours at your restaurant and then change into another pair mid-shift so that you don’t get blisters.
If you aren’t able to find a comfortable, and of course nice looking, pair of waitress shoes you will definitely notice by the end of your shift, but if you are able to find these items you’ll only be noticing your increased tips!
Always wear black socks with your black waitress pants and black waitress shoes!
